Rare crystal and sterling silver scent or perfume bottle. A sterling silver snake is coiled around the crystal with its head resting on the collar. The snake has ruby or garnet eyes (one eye is missing) and a larger cabochon stone on the lid. The silver top and snake have a hammered scale like detail which adds to the realistic look of the piece. The crystal glass has also been cut to resemble snake scales. The top is engraved with the initial "W". The piece has impressed marks for English sterling and maker C&C (Albert Cohen and Charles Solomon) and date mark 1898. It was retailed by J.C. Vickery Regent Street, an important and successful retailer of the gold and silversmithing business in early 20th century. The bottle measures 2.75" high and is excellent condition with the only flaw the missing eye. A most unusual and collectible piece.
