Beautiful and large eventail fan originating from Spain or France circa 1850-1860. Made of heavily carved and pierced mother-of-pearl sticks and double leaf paper. The front leaf shows a handcoloured engraving of three scenes of every day Victorian life and is embellished with handpainted accents all over. The reverse is handpainted garlands of spring flowers. I especially love the green paste stone which adorns the brass finger ring. A lovely handmade tassel of blue silk threads with faux pearls hangs from the ring. The fan measures 10.5" tall by 20" wide fully opened. In very good antique condition for a delicate item of this age. There are a few shallow cracks in the mother-of-pearl sticks which do not go through to the other side and do not affect the integrity of the fan. They do not detract at all from its beauty. No tears in the paper. This would make a fabulous addition to a collection or as a starter piece.
