This little piece is a DELIGHT! An antique French miniature dore gilt bronze vase embellished with a bird and insect. The bulbous body has a fabulous jeweled insect applied as if it had just settled there. The bug is made of a silver metal and has a nice size red (garnet like) stone on its back. Tiny pearls and red stones accentuate its features (see photos). It is very realistic with much detail. The silver and the stones could be of fine materials, but I have no expertise in this area. The tall narrow neck has a beautiful silver swallow which looks as if it had just swooped down. It long ago had a gold wash over the silver as evidenced in the photo of its underside. This could be sterling or plated. It is stamped on the base "Marque Deposee" and stands 4" high by 2.25" wide. Fabulous!
