Large aesthetic movement silverplate figural squirrel nut bowl

Fabulous and whimsical Aesthetic Movement silverplate figural nut bowl. The large bowl resembles a cracked egg with irregular jagged edge. A 3-D squirrel munching on a nut is perched on a vine-like handle. The bowl sets on a scalloped 4 section base. An elaborate aesthetic motif is engraved on the bowl and base. Applied leaves in various sizes add to the decoration. This exquisite piece measures 11" tall by 12" wide. It is in excellent antique condition with no loss of plating at all and a wonderful patina. I found one tiny dimple on the bowl and one of the scalloped sections of the base has a bit of roughness (see photo). Exceptional condition for its age! It is marked on the base Wm. Rogers & Son which dates it to 1861-1871. It makes a perfect piece to serve small pastries or to use for a small arrangement. A real conversation piece!
