The old utensils were very handy This is a milk bottle opener - was used to pry off the bottle caps. It was a premium from the Diamond Crystal Salt company. Some of these old tools/premiums were far better back then than they are now!!
This piece measures 4-1/8" long x 7/8" wide at the buttons x 1/4" deep at the buttons. The opener is metallic silver. The buttons are cherry red, navy blue and white. It is marked "Pat'd Oct. 12, 1920 W&H (Whitehead & Hoag) Co. Newark NJ". There is a loop to hang the opener on the other end! Usually the salesmen would give pinback buttons or stickpins to wear to help advertise their products. This opener is actually very useful!!
The metallic silver has a small amount of use wear. The red button has a spot at the end of the word "salt". The blue button has a gash line at the top of the ST of Crystal 1/16th" - I had to use a loop to see it!! Both buttons have scratches. Part of the problem when the tool is useful!!
