What a fun item. During the late 19th century ice skating was the most popular winter recreation in the city of Chicago. Speed skating clubs were formed and were even in the public schools during the early part of the 1900s. From 1924 to 1998 every Olympic Winter Games had a speed skater from Chicago. During this time there were many manufacturers of ice skates that settled in Chicago. Nestor Johnson Manufacturing Co. was one of them. This pin is a premium from that company. It states "Nestor Johnson" on the front of the "quilted" ice skate. This pin is 1" wide x 1/2" tall and just a bit under 1/4" deep. It has a gold tone finish. On the back is the pin's manufacturer's mark. I think it says "Wm. Noble & Co. - Chicago".
This pin was used. It looks as if the "pin" part has been reglued onto the back. It is very solid. This is a fun item for the sports advertising or skating collector.
