Presented is a classically designed set of 6 English sterling silver and ivory butter knives made by William Needham and Henry Greaves of Sheffield in 1910. The blades and collars are sterling silver and the handles are carved out of solid pieces of ivory. This is a very nice quality set in its original, fitted box.
The blades and collars are marked with the crown for Sheffield, the lion passant for sterling silver and a date letter S for the year 1910. The blades bear a maker's mark for William Needham and the collars bear a maker's mark of the initials HG for Henry Greaves.
This set is in excellent overall condition considering its age. All of the ivory handles have natural age lines/cracks to the handles, but they are all structurally sound. Nothing is loose. There are no dents, no missing pieces, no breaks and no repairs.
Each knife measures 6 3/8 inches long.
