Finely Carved Japanese Ivory Netsuke Masked Man Figurine

Presented is a unique, little Japanese carved ivory netsuke. A netsuke was a pull or slider used on a rope used to tie around a robe. The netsuke would tighten or slacken the rope like a belt. This particular piece is in the form of a ceremonially dressed man wearing a scary demon's mask who is standing with a rope and hammer over what appears to be a cage of sorts. A small man pops out of the bottom of the cage or basket. The man's robe is beautifully incised with design. The ivory has a wonderful, natural grain.

There is a Japanese character artist's signature on the underside of the piece.

This figurine is in fabulous overall condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no missing pieces and no repairs.

The piece measures 2 inches tall.
