19th Century Italian Large Micro-Mosaic Crucifix or Cross Wall Hanging

Presented is an amazing, Italian micro-mosaic crucifix wall hanging made between 1850 and 1880. The cross is nickle or chrome plated over a base metal and the whole front is decorated with superb, inlaid micro-mosaics. The center has an applied Jesus on the cross, made of a natural white material, please refer to the photographs below for more information. The center of the cross, behind Jesus' head has an intertwined P and X, for the Greek letters Chi and Rho, which are the beginning letters of Jesus and Christ. The tile work on this piece is great. This cross is larger and heavier than usual.

This piece is in great overall condition. The arms of Jesus were separately carved and applied as was almost always done with these figures. The juncture of the arms and the body has been reinforced with epoxy. The arms were probably a little loose at one time. The arms are in excellent condition now. There is a minor chip to a single finger. The small flower mosaic under the sheaves of wheat has a single tile missing but this is hardly noticeable. There are no other flaws or repairs.

The cross measures 8 by 13 7/8 inches and weighs 1,030 grams or 36.3 ounces.
