Exquisite 1850 Tortoise Shell Inlaid 14 karat Gold Hair Comb

Presented is a remarkable, tortoise shell and 14 karat gold hair comb made during the 1840s-60s. This old piece is in incredible condition for its age. The decorative top portion is hinged to the comb, so no matter what angle you secure the comb into your hair, the pretty part can be moved into view. The top portion has large raised beads and smaller beads along the top. There are inlaid 14 karat gold stars and crosses.

The gold inlay parts have been tested with nitric acid and are guaranteed to be 14 karat gold. The hinged portion is gold plated.

This piece is in excellent overall condition for its age and fragility. There is a tiny chip to the top portion, but it is on the back and can only be seen when you turn the piece upside-down. There are no missing pieces, no cracks and no repairs.

The comb measures 4 1/4 inches wide and is 3 1/2 inches long.
