34 piece English Silver and Carved Ivory James Dixon Fish Set
Presented is a neat 34 piece, English silver and carved ivory fish or dessert set made by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield during the mid 19th century. this set comes complete in its original, fitted wooden box. The box is being sold as-is and has some wear but still houses the set well. Each handle is carved from a solid piece of ivory into a knotted branch form. The silver plated blades and tines are engraved with lovely, classical designs. The ferrels or bands on each piece are decoratively cast with bands of beaded designs.
Each of the tines and each blade is marked with the hallmark for James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield. This set is silver plated. It is not sterling silver.
This set is in pretty good overall condition. Most of the handles are split, as ivory of this age tends to do, but all of the handles are still solid in their bands. Some of the knife handles are slightly askew with the blades. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs.
Each knife measures 8 7/8 inches long and each fork measures 7 1/8 inches long.
