Unusual Chinese Carved Ivory Faces Cane Handle

Presented is a very interesting, hand carved ivory cane or parasol handle. This piece was made in China during the late 1800s or possibly the early 1900s. The whole handle is hand carved from a single piece of ivory. The whole piece is carved with detailed faces, sort of a totem pole design. The faces are various sizes and show different expressions, this is definitely an unusual piece. There are a total of 28 faces.

There is a signature of the maker on the piece.

This piece is in good overall condition for its age. There aer some splits to the ivory, which is to be expected on a piece of ivory this age. Although there are some splits, the handle is still structurally sound. There are no chips and no repairs.

The handle measures 4 1/8 inches long.
