Presented is a handsome English ivory handled fish set. These large serving pieces are very well made with elegantly carved ivory handles and the old silver plated carbon steel blades and tines. The blades and tines are beautifully engraved. The knife blade is engraved with a scene of a man fishing with a bridge and a cathedral in the background framed with flowers, scrolls and leaves. The tines on the fork are also engraved with scrolls and leaves. The ivory handles are engraved and inked with the old original monogram of JMB. The fish serving knife is stamped Made in England on the blade, but I believe this stamp was added many years after the fish set was actually made. This set was almost certainly made between the 1860s to 1880s.
The condition is excellent. Both of the handles have a split in the ivory just as you would expect on a set of this age, but this is irrelevant. The handles are structurally sound. There are no chips, no breaks, and no repairs.
The fish serving fork is 9 3/4 inches long.
The fish serving knife is 13 1/4 inches long.
