Presented is a marvelous set of 12 ivory handled dinner knives in the original fitted box. The ivory handles are nicely carved with a pointed tip and a ridge down the center. The knives have the old silver plated carbon steel blades. They come in the old felt lined fitted box. This is a handsome rosewood box with a brass plaque applied to the lid and a brass escutcheon for the key. These knives were made in America in the second half of the 1800s, probably 1870 to 1880.
The knives are marked on the blades with J. Russell & Co. Green River Works.
The condition is excellent. One of the knives has a fine line in the ivory handle which we have shown in the fifth photograph. This is quite minor and only noticeable upon close inspection. The handle is still structurally sound. The silver plating on the blades is in great shape. There are no other splits, no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
The knives are 10 1/2 inches long.
