Amazing Meiji Period Carved Ivory Box with Chrysanthemums

Presented is a fantastic carved ivory box. We believe this is a Japanese piece, but it may be Chinese. The box dates to the Meiji period, or about 1860s-1900. The box is beautifully carved all over the outside with chrysanthemum blossoms, really the best quality carving, just incredibly well done. The interior of the box is very clean, with a lovely mellow patina. This was probably made to be a snuffbox, but it's a decent size, could be used as a very classy cigarette case or dresser box.

This piece is in fabulous overall condition. There are two tiny lines, one on either side of the top of the box, a bit behind the pins of the hinge, but these are hard to notice. The lid closes quite securely. There are no splits, no chips, no cracks, and no repairs.

This box has approximate dimensions of 3 3/4 x 2 5/8 x 7/8 inches (LxWxH).
