Presented is an antique pair of Japanese food travel sets made during the Meiji Period in the mid to late 1800s. Both cases are made from tortoisel shell, and have brass mountings and include one large knife and a pair of chopsticks. One pair of chop sticks are made of bone, while the others are made from ebony wood or some other dark wood.
Both sets are in good condition. One knife appears to be missing a cap at the end of the handle. One of the cases seems to be missing a cap at the bottom and the other is missing an small inset towards the middle. Otherwise, there are no chips, no cracks and no repairs.
The cases, with the knives and chop sticks inside, measure 10 7/8 and 12 3/4 inches long.
