GLOSSY RED Royal Bayreuth tomato-form creamer and sugar on paired underplate. The footed CREAMER has a red satin finish with green and brown handle, spout and foot. Blue overglaze mark #15 (McCaslin) dating to c1900. Faintly impressed 'Deponiert' (Registered) to assure the original buyer that the mould was intact and could be re-ordered. Tomato-form SUGAR BOWL has satin finish with green and brown knob on the lid. Blue overglaze mark #9 dating to 1902 and after. This piece is in very good condition. Artist's fingerprint is visible on both sides of green stalk - a bit of CSI from a century ago! Two 1/4" chipped indentations on left underside of lid in photo 8. Tomato-vine-with-blossoms UNDERPLATE features a large tomato with white and yellow blossoms set against a fresh green leaf. The lettuce-form edge is very attractive and delicate. Blue overglaze mark #15 dating to 1900. 'Deponiert' (Registered) impressed, photo 4. This piece is in average condition. Paint loss and rubbing from a century of use (photo 3), not noticeable when container is on tray. No chips, cracks or hairlines. Looks 'as new' from underside. Price reflects these defects. Founded in 1794, Royal Bayreuth is the oldest privately owned Bavarian porcelain manufacturer. It was the first European factory to make porcelain tableware for daily use and was an immediate success with the emerging middle class. Royal Bayreuth is marketed today in Europe as Royal Tettau Porcelain (Konigl.priv.Tettau).
