Nicholas Lancret, French 18th C., Plate Engraving of the Dancer Camargo

Lovely plate engraving of the most famous ballerina of her day, Madame Camargo, a Belgian who trained in France. Lancret captured her energetic style and his depiction became the template for portraits of dancers for years to come. This framed print is 21.75" x 16.75" and the image size is 13" x 9". The image is in good condition; there are a couple of small tears on the margin as shown. The picture would probably benefit by reframing as this frame does not reflect the delicate nature of the subject. I have another print by Lancret that is a companion to this one which will be listed next. Inscribed beneath the image in script is the artist name and Gruppe aus: Die Tanzerin Camargo.
