Original Gun Illustration for Popular Mechanics Magazine, c. 1970s

This is one of eight original gun illustrations by Thomas Dauer, an Atlanta artist whose estate was dispersed last summer. The artist was art director for Popular Mechanics Magazine, as preserved on the label that was on the backs of each piece. The artist's flat files were full of a life-time of fine illustrations he had done for major corporations, magazines, private commissions, agencies associated with the space program, .and even museums. These gun illustrations were unframed, as would be expected. They are probably a combination of pen and ink and also airbrush. I do not know who the gun manufacturer is but gun collectors will probably know. I recently had them framed. The dimensions of this framed piece are 19" long x 11.5" high. The Image size is 11" long and 3.5" high. This frame is a darker wood, selected to match the wood grain in the gun stock.
