Early Japanese Lacquered Box w Kimono Clad Figures

Beautiful antique lacquerware box with numerous figures hand-painted on the lid and sides. This exquisite box has a small key hole and an intact lock but no key. The box is good condition but does has some fading and has a hairline crack on one corner of the lid that is noticeable depending on how the light shines on the top. Most of the robes are painted with gold decoration. Each panel--lid, back, front, and two sides--is different with a variety of outdoor scenes. The box is 3.75" long, 2.75" wide and 2" high approx. The interior is completely covered with lacquer as is the base. I would fix the date on this piece at the late 18th or early 19th century.
