Wedgwood Poets & Heroes Ralph Waldo Emerson Plate 1894

Wedgwood's Poets and Heroes series of historical plates includes this one honoring Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1803-1882. Essayist, poet, Transcendentalist, Emerson's influence extended to a wide range of his artistic contemporaries. Excerpts from three of his works are printed on the plate: The Problem, Good-bye, and The Concord Monument.

The 8 1/2 inch plate is impressed P to indicate it is made of Pearlware and DXW for the year of manufacture, 1894. It also has Emerson printed in bluish-green letters, the same color appearing on the face of the plate.

The edges of the plate show wear/soiling from handling but otherwise the plate is very good and has no chips, nor cracks. The plate comes from the Rosen Collection.
