Scherenschnitte Hans Brach Sailboat on the River Paper-cutting Germany 1920s

A sailboat with two passengers embarks on the river with both shores in view. The trees on the opposite bank stand as in a forest. The precision paper-cutting is typical of the work of Hans Brach and his stamp appears on the lower right. This is number 8 in his inventory. The overall dimensions are: 7 1/2" x 14 1/4".

The tradition of paper-cutting or scissors work, called Scherenschnitte, saw a revival in Germany in the1910-20s. A past- time for men as well as women, it has a long tradition and in America, the Pennsylvania Dutch were renowned practitioners. The Scherenschnitte looks quite attractive in a simple frame.

This piece is unframed and can be shipped at a reasonable cost. Several can be shipped together for the cost of one with just an additional charge for insurance.
