Carlton Ware, England, produced the Rouge Royale Coffee pot from 1952-62. The shape is a modified quatrefoil and the red flambe glaze with gold contrast reflects the mid-century modern aesthetic. This set includes 6 demitasse size cups and saucers with gold interiors.
The pot measures 7 1/2 inches to the top of the gold finial. The gold gilding is around the foot, inner rim, handle, spout, lid and finial and is in excellent condition with no discernible loss.. The red glaze is also unmarred except for light mottling on both sides. I have added pictures to try to show this. The glossy glaze makes it difficult to show the mottling without exaggeration. This seems to be present on most Rouge Royale and only visible on close inspection.
The 6 cups and saucers have a slight quatrefoil shape with scalloped edges. The cups are 2 1/4 inches high by 2 3/8 inches at the mouth. The foot is 1 3/8inches in diameter. The saucer measures 4 3/8 inches diameter. They are in fine condition with one saucer showing wear in the center.
There is mild crazing on the bottom of the pot and on the bottoms of three cups. The bodies are free of crazing and there are no chips nor flakes.
