Carlton Ware Rouge Royale New Mikado Large Pitcher

This Carlton Ware 7 1/4 inches tall pitcher is from the Rouge Royale series. The design is called New Mikado and features a tall building with pagoda roofs, weeping willow tree, and flowers on an island. A solitary figure stands on the island.

The reverse side has a scene of a moon bridge with a pagoda and two flying storks. A man in a barge is polling in front of the bridge and has a lantern dangling from a pole to light the way. All of the involves hand painted enamels over the glaze. The rim is decorated with a floral lace-like gold border.

Carlton Ware began production of chinoiserie patterns in 1916 and continued into the 1960s. I estimate the making of this pitcher to be the late 1940s based on the maker's mark. The condition is very good, without wear to the gilding and no missing enamel. There are no chips nor cracks nor flakes.
