This candle snuffer and wick trimmer was made of stamped tin. The scissor type snuffer has three feet all made from the same piece of tin. It is 6 inches long and dates to 1850-70.
Early tinplate was made by layering tin over steel and running it through a roller. When the tinplate wore off, the article would rust as this has. The remnant of tin can be seen on the backside when the handles are open. This is an interesting primitive piece.
