Copeland Spode Gold-Net Lustre Luster Cobalt Parrot Bowl Bone China ca. 1916

Copeland Spode made this Parrot design lustre /luster bowl with the outstanding gold net-like pattern over a deep cobalt ground. The Parrot is painted in yellow, red, green and gold enamels. The interior flowers are in red, yellow, and purple enamel with gold stencil highlights. They form a garland around a the Parrot on a tree branch.

The outside of the bowl tapers down to a high foot with gold trim at top and bottom. There is a flower pattern encircling the outside which is done simply in the gold over blue that mimics the interior flower pattern.

The bowl is 10 inches in diameter and stands 5 inches tall. The manufacturer's mark is the green: Spode Copeland's China England, and the pattern number is R5959 which dates this piece to 1916. There is also the letter W in yellow paint, probably the gilder's id, and 6094 scratched into the glaze.

This exquisite work of art is made of bone china, has not lost any of its rich gold, and is in excellent condition.
