Fabulous Vintage Collection Of Cigar Bands

This is a fabulous collection of approximately 12,000 antique and vintage cigar bands . The bands are in as new "MINT" condition and are mounted in three 12" albums along with an assortment of loose bands in a cigar box. Many of the bands are noted as "RARE and "VERY RARE" This collection contains bands from the U.S., Cuba, Germany, France, Spain, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom among others. this collection represents a lifetime of hunting and it's very unlikely that it could be assembled today. Just a beautiful representation of color lithography at its best! The art that surrounded cigar packaging had become a huge industry across the U.S. between 1850 and 1920 when cigar smoking was at an all time high. Cigar advertising reached it's peak from 1880 thru 1920 through the use of Color Lithography which was used to print the cigar labels and bands. In the early 1800's Lithography swept through many nations as the newest method of printing advertising for mass production. Lithography comes from the Greek for "writing with stone" and was discoverd by Aloisius Senefelder in Munich,Germany in 1796. Senefelder's original discoveries were variations of relief printing but he would continue to develop and improve his discoveries for the next two years into a planographic printing process that is known today as Lithography. Today's off-set printing cannot reproduce the brilliant colors used in Lithography
