Here is a fabulous pair of Antique Georgian ca.1804 Sterling Silver (marked) Bright Cut shoe buckles made by Master Silversmith George Wintle ca. 1804. The buckles are fully hall-marked with the Lion marks for sterling and the GW for the maker as well as the duty mark a bust of George the third. The buckles are in great condition and measure 2-3/4" by 2-1/4". George Wintle was the most prolific of all of the makers of this period. A collector could focus just on George Wintle and have a collection spanning most of the period and covering almost the full range of antique Georgian silver. He entered his first mark on 2nd January 1787 as a plate-worker and other marks were entered up to 1823.
