Standing Pig Still Bank Embossed Cast Iron Bank on Republic
Embossed on the back side of this cast iron Standing Pig is BANK ON REPUBLIC PIG IRON. I believe this pig has been painted other than the original colors, and they may even have been bare originally, as there is no evidence of older paint underneath. These pigs date to the second half of the 20th century. I have had the bank apart, the screw is not rusted and easily turns, and the insides appear as they should, with the back casting stamped with the numbers 2 and 14 and the front piece stamped with a number 4. As you see, there is as minimal amount of rust on the inside. The only thing I noticed about this bank is that the detail seen in the "feet" standing on the pedestal is not as fine as some. This could simply be an issue with the mold. There is some very minor paint loss on the nose, certainly not an issue to touch up if one wishes.
