Red Wing #8 Stoneware Sponge Bowl in Red and Blue
Here's a Red Wing sponge bowl that only shows a little use as seen by the light marks in the bottom. Other wise, it's in nice condition with no cracks or repairs. There are two small spots of about 1/8 inch each about 3 inches from each other that appear to be glaze misses and not chips. There are also some chips around the edge of the foot. I don't necessarily consider this a bad thing as these pieces were made and sold as utilitarian pieces and intended for almost daily use. Red Wing introduced sponge glaze in 1906. The blue, in the case of this bowl, seems to be a bit heavier and darker than the red but both are equally distributed around the bowl for a nice even mix. This is a #8 bowl and is 4 1/2 inches high.
