John Lass signed print, "#423 High Speed Interurban Rail Car," Ca. 1988. This is a limited edition color print from a signed original water color by artist John Lass and featuring car #423 of the Chicago Aurora and Elgin Railroad in wonderful colors and detail. The print is number 31 of 250. The C A & E operated from 1902 until 1957 when it was very suddenly shut down for good...with passengers aboard the lines no less. This particular car would have likely been built around 1925. Be one of the few RR collectors with this piece in your collection, and the frame of your choice will only serve to enhance it many times over. The print measures 11 1/4 by 15 1/2 inches and is on nice quality linen paper with a stiff backing. It is currently sealed in it's original plastic with the original price and authentication still on the back. There is no damage of any sort and I'm betting that the colors will pop even more once the print is out of the plastic. With this print we are including the 1971 hardcover book, "The Interurban Era" by William D. Middleton with it's original dust cover, which is a bit rough around the edges, but it is in one solid piece and un-taped anywhere. The book itself is in very good condition with no writing or other marks of any kind, no bent or creased pages, no tears, no stains, and the binding and hinges are solid. The cover is free of any wear. The book is Library of Congress Catalog Number 61-10728 and is 413 pages of great photographs and interesting details about the operation of this grand form of transportation once used by thousands of commuters throughout the midwest. At one time an interurban ran less than two miles from my home here in LeClaire. The Chicago Aurora and Elgin Railroad does get brief mention in the book by the way.
