Frederick Lewis H/C Aquatint Scene - Buckland Rock 1820
This is a beautiful hand colored aquatint, Scene from Buckland Rock, on fine wove paper with a strong plate mark. From Federick Christian Lewis' Scenery of the River Dart, published London, 1820-21.
Lewis was an eminent early nineteenth century English engraver and landscape painter. Born in 1779, he exhibited his art at the Royal Academy, The British Institution, the Society of British artists and at the Old Water-Color Society. He was Engraver of Drawings to King George IV, King William IV and Queen Victoria.
One of his most significant works was Scenery of the River Dart which was a series of 35 views which he drew and engraved. This print, Scene from Buckland Rock, is a beautiful, tranquil pastoral landscape and the colors are lovely
The approximate size is 15 1/4" x 10 3/4". Condition is good with staining mostly in the margin areas.
