OLD French Faience Mustard Pot with French Bakelite Spoon
This is a charming example of French faience tableware. Common to most homes in France, it is a mustard pot with its original French Bakelite spoon. (We believe it to be French Bakelite/Galalith because we did the hot water test on the spoon and it smells faintly like spoiled milk.) The front of the pot is marked Moutardes fine de Dijon and Maille 1747. Maille is nestled serenely in the Vienne Department (Poitou-Charentes region) west of Paris, and is famous for its fine mustards, much spicier than the American versions! The jar is marked to the bottom 'Made in France'. We purchased this in France. No chips, cracks or repairs. 4 1/2" tall by 2 1/8" wide. The spoon is a clever shovel shape and measures almost 5" long.
