A fabulous 800 Silver Egyptian Art Deco brooch, circa 1925 when Egyptian motif was all the rage. The large scarab sits on an etched and adorned boat, with very intricate symbols of the era... a panther, birds, and others as pictured. Above the beetle is a winged motif, as if at the gateway to a temple, with the body fashioned from a fiery opal. The scarab beetle's eyes are rubies, one cabochon and one a newer faceted replacement, although both are the same size. The pin back is a barrel clasp in working order, although the pin itself is slightly bent from 90 years of use. The pin is hallmarked. I have not found any other information about the hallmarks, just that the pin is 800 silver. A loop original to the piece allows you to use it as a pendant, also. Measures a good size: 2" wide by 1 1/2" tall. Very, very cool!
