Antique French CHRISTOFLE Gallia Art Nouveau Oil & Vinegar Silver Set
The esteemed French Christofle line began in 1830, and has serviced kings and wealthy commoners with its array of sterling, silverplate and other metal goods for the home and table. By the end of the 19th Century, the world began to demand articles that were not quite so staid, and that would convey the spirit of the early 20th Century. Thus, Christofle hired innovative, forward-thinking designers for its Gallia line, produced between 1900 and 1937. This beautiful Art Nouveau Oil and Vinegar silverplate cruet set with glass bowls for herbs or salt and pepper, includes a sterling silver hallmarked tiny spoon and is fully marked to the bottom with the Gallia mark. Dates to between 1900 and 1910. 7" wide by almost 7 1/2" tall with the cruets in place. All the glass is perfect. There is some slight pitting to the silver, most likely from the salt used over the 100 to 112 years the piece has been around. We purchased this lovely item in France, and although Christofle continues its fine tradition today, you will not find anything like this for your table!
