Noritake Plates Hand Painted Phoenix Birds Circa 1920s

Here are five lovely old Noritake plates. They are hand painted in bright colors with two, what appear to be, Phoenix birds facing each other with a bundle of something in between them. They seem to be reared up as if fighting in mid air. What the symbolism is, I have no idea. I just loved the bright colors and interesting subject matter. These are 6" cake or bread plates. They are all hand painted, thus each is slightly different in the positioning of the scene. The china is delicate yet substantial. They are all clearly marked on the underside with the red "M" wreath. The "M" is for Morimura, and is positioned in the center of the wreath. Over the top it reads; "NORITAKE" and below the wreath, the words; "Hand painted" and "Made in Japan". This mark was registered in 1918 and used in the early 1920's until around 1940. I believe these to be earlier pieces due to the feel of the porcelain. Please view the photos as an integral part of the description and use the magnifying feature.

These are all in very nice condition for their age. There are only a couple of tiny places on a couple where the paint is missing or worn, most likely from rubbing while stacked. There are no cracks, chips, crazing or repairs.

What a fabulous set of old Noritake to add to your collection.
