50% Off Vintage Bossons Chalkware Head "Pancho" 1960 England

Pancho was sculpted by Fred Wright, who was one of the best sculptors that worked for Bossons in the early days. He is responsible for many of the best pieces, in my opinion. Bengali, Espana, Harry Wheatcroft, Indian Chief, Albanian. Those are just a few of the many wonderful little works of art that he created for them until leaving and going to work for Legend Products, where he continued to create more great character heads. The Bossons company went out of business in late 1996, so there will most likely never be any more Bossons, most of the molds were broken as the pieces were discontinued through the years.

This Bossons head was produced for many years before he was discontinued. But, this is an early version, which can be confirmed by the hollowed out back and the protruding wire piece for hanging. This style of back was used in the 1960s and into the early 70s until it was changed to a solid flat back with a recessed wire for hanging. I have been collecting Bossons since the mid 1980s and find that the early pieces are my favorites because the demand was not so high so, the paintresses were not under so much production pressure. They were able to take more time and pay more attention to the nuance of painting the various layers of color that make the skin look real, for example. As their popularity increased and the demand became higher they were just cranking them out with a little less attention to the finer points. (This is just my opinion of course.)

This Bossons chalkware head is in excellent condition with NO chips, cracks or repairs. He is ready to add to your collection as soon as you take him out of the box. The Bossons mark is impressed on the back.

He measures 7 1/2" tall by 6 1/2" wide by 3" deep.
