1890 Sterling Silver Salt or Pepper or Spice Shaker in a Miniature House Boat Form

This is a wonderful Salt or Pepper or Spice Shaker in a Miniature House Boat form. This sterling boat is very reminiscent of a sand pan vessel used by those trading their wares on the river. It actually houses spices of your choosing that can be easily deposited through the three holes located on the bow side eave of the house. The roofed house with four windows on either side and two on the bow and stern side sit atop the hull with ten rectangular windows on either side.

A very prominent spar adorns the bow while the stern looks as if there may have been at one time another piece attached to it. All of this sits atop a small pedestal that is nicely decorated with sea gulls flying among ocean waves. The patina on this vessel, in particular, enhances the overall presentation and lines of the boat.

The underside of the boat is clearly marked STERLING just below a sliding door. This door, when open, allows the contents of the boat to be emptied or refilled with ease.

This charming silver floating structure measures 3" in length from the tip of the spar to the end of the stern and is just less than 1" wide. This condiment shaker weighs 1 ounce.

What a great salt or pepper or spice shaker for your dining experience! Can you imagine the conversation now, upon what rivers and oceans this boat has traveled? :)
