This is a beautifully preserved and highly decorated William Hutton & Sons Silver Fish Set fully protected in its own lined storage box. The matching fork and knife set are adorned with oriental undertones so reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts Movement of the late 1800's and early 1900's. Stalks of bamboo, the bird of Paradise, and ornamental fans appear on both the fork and knife. The undersides of each are decorated with a simple yet elegant beaded and lined etching.
The fork and knife each fit snugly nestled in their preformed sections of the velvet and silk lined box interior. The clasp is good and in fine working condition further securing the fish set inside. Both silver portions of the fork and knife are in excellent condition with the knife being unsharpened. There is a thin split on each of the composite handles, further adding to the charm and history of the pieces.
The fish storage box weighs 12.6 ounces and measures 15 inches by 5 inches. The knife with handle measures 12 inches in length with the blade measuring 2 inches at its widest. The fork with handle measures 9 ½ inches and has a 2-inch width comprising the five tines. The knife and fork weigh 6.2 ounces and 4.4 ounces respectively.
The knife and fork are fully hallmarked on their respective undersides with the letters WH & S E P identifying the silversmiths William Hutton and Sons Electro Plated. William Hutton and Sons had offices in Sheffield and London, were well respected and crafted such stunning pieces during the late 1800's.
This highly decorated William Hutton & Sons Silver Fish Set with storage box would surely make a fabulous addition to one's collected or given as a gift, serve to be a wonderful keepsake for year's to come.
