Victorian Frame Brass Bronze Wash With Cherubs And F. Gutekunst Photo
This very ornate picture frame and photo is presented here for you consideration. There are lots of details in this amazing piece, which include angels, fern leaves, flowers, and a monogram at the top. The initials look like A and D and appear to be done by hand. This piece is made of brass and has a bronze wash finish. It may be hand wrought (look at the detail). There is an easel type stand and the number
1 1/2 on the back of the easel arm (see pic # 9). What is really wonderful in addition to this frame is a photo under glass of a gentleman done by the famous photographer F. Gutekunst of Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865. (We do not know the identity of the gentleman in this photo.) The photo is marked with all of the details regarding the photographer. Also, on the back of the paper insert is what looks to be the name Mary.
The frame measures 11 inches high by 6 3/4 inches wide at the base.
The condition of this piece is very good! There is lots of aged patina. We chose not to clean this piece. There is normal wear to the bronze wash. There is a pierced area at the bottom of the circular part of the frame. We are not certain if the back bands with slotted screws were added at a later date.
