Folk Art Chair - American Folk Art

FOLK ART CHAIR ... This is without question one of our favorite pieces of Folk Art that we have come across ... This chair was purchased in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire ... The minute we saw this piece we were immediately drawn to it ... We first noted the bold crude chip carving along the base and on the outside of the right arm and thought Tramp Art ... Then you notice the heart cut out in the center with a carved bird on the left and a carved pinwheel on the right made you think Pennsylvania ... Measurements: 50" height, 17" width, 16" depth ... The chair is made of various woods, various enough that none of them match, but thats Folk Art, you created with what you had on hand ... The back is two pieces of wood, the seat is a slab of wood that is 1 1/2" thick, flanked by the crude arms which have a carved design on the outside of each ... The bottom apron has another wonderful carved pinwheel design with a chip carved foot rest of sorts... The back of the chair is unfinished and shows two braces that have been added over time ... Finish is an older thicker varnish, time worn ... This piece is very solid and very heavy ... Another great example of American Folk Art ... (Please review photos) ...
