We have offered here a gorgeous Antique Inlaid Birds Eye Maple and Rosewood Lap Desk. This one has the outside done in Birds Eye Maple with Mother of Pearl and Black Inlaid patterns along the edges. When opened there is a red leather writing surface, which opens on both sides to reveal Rosewood lined storage compartments. The top portion has a place for two ink wells, as well as a place for pens with storage below. The box is 11" by 7 1/2" by 4 1/2" high when closed and 15" long when opened. This one is in excellent condition with some very minor cracking to the Maple veneer outside, and a couple of very minor missing pieces of Mother of Pearl. The leather writing surface shows minor wear where it folds when closed, but otherwise this one is a wow. A truly magnificent Antique Writing Lap Desk from the middle of the 1800's, and it still has a key.
