This beautiful antique flow blue plate from W. H. Grindley of Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, is in the "Clarence" pattern. The diameter of the plate is 8 3/4 inches. It features a scalloped, beaded edge with a white lacey pattern inside and slightly over the flow blue designs. The rim background is light blue with the design much darker. The well is surrounded top side with a white fringe which gives the plate a "doily" look. The mark places the year of the plate somewhere between 1891 and 1914. The use of "England" indicates 1891 forward.
It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or stains. Some light utensils wear in the center well is evident under light. The backside has three small glaze skips...normal for pottery pieces.
