Mushroom Study Chromolithograph Print Circa 1881

This beautiful print of Agaricus Spendens was printed in a book dated 1888 but carries a reference of 1881. This mushroom study is likely from a German encyclopedia of the 19th century filled with chromolithograph prints. This process of printing was used from 1855 - 1905 and requires each color represented in the image to be applied on a separate plate. The colors layer translucently upon each other. It is plate 109. The mushrooms are golden and cream on a background you might call mushroom...or taupe.

The paper is 5 3/4(w) x 9, but the print itself is 4 1/2 x 7 3/4. The print is free from creases and stains, excellent in condition. The white part is lightly yellowed with age and top corner is cut off, but that part would be under a frame or mat. I am listing four of the prints.

A wonderful grouping for the study or kitchen!
