Nippon Oval Dish Handpainted Circa: Pre 1921

This beautiful Nippon dish is oval in shape and features open handles on both sides. Designs depict a Samurai warrior, a hut by the sea, and two medallions of an animal head( I think dragon) at flower blossoms. The whole dish is decorated. The colors are mainly beige, grey, deep carnelian and blue. The diamond shaped grid portions are made with lines of gold leaf and white enamel.

The dish measures 7 1/4 by 4 3/4 inches and stands 1 1/2 inches. Nippon was made before 1921 so it does show some age. The dish has excellent condition with no cracks, crazing, chips and like. I see the very edge is mainly painted red. I believe this to have been all gold at one time. One handle has a section of worn gold and maybe some enamel is worn or missed at the base of the other handle. The underside of the bowl is white with a gold ring around the foot. In my view none of the above detracts from the dish.

The bottom stamp is the green wreath enclosing TN; handpainted overall; Nippon underneath.
