Elegant ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 10K Gold & Shell Cameo Drop Earrings!

AGE: C.1890 or so

ITEM: A pair of Antique Victorian rose gold drop earrings featuring true left and right shell cameo profiles. The earrings were once pierced but somewhere along the line someone had them converted to yellow gold screwback earwires. If desired, the earwires can be switched back to pierced but it will take a jeweler to do so.

CONDITION: Very nice for their age. The cameos aren't museum quality - they are roughly carved; one lady has an elegant elongated nose while the other has more of a hook nose. Both cameos are dirty and I'm sorry that this shows in the photos. I have cleaned the pieces up since taking the pics and its quite appearent that with a little more cleaning, all traces of dirt will disappear.

The screwback earwires were attached cleanly and it would only take one small cut to sever them from the main section of the earring. While one screwback is perfect, the other has a dented back and only has a little play in tightening. Replacement of the ear mechanisms is recommended whether the replacement be screw, clip or pierced.

METAL CONTENT: Earwires are 10K Yellow Gold. Earrings are 9K Rose Gold.

HALLMARKS: Earwires are marked 10K; earrings are unmarked but have been acid tested for content.

SIZE: From top to bottom measures 1-1/8"; width is 11/16".

WEIGHT: 4.8 grams combined

FINAL COMMENTS: Priced to sell! If perfect, the earrings could fetch a pretty penny but because there is work needed on the ear mechanism, I have priced them to find a good home quickly.
