Palais Royal Mother of Pearl Balloon Ascension Patch Box/Snuff Box - C 1790

A RARE French Palais Royal Box with a lustrous mother of pearl plaque on the top. The mother of pearl is etched with a picture of a Hot Air Balloon in flight above the clouds air along with birds. The etching is filled with silver foil. Around the side of the box is a rope work design also filled with silver foil.

The inside of the lid has a slight restoration and there is a small line on the rim of the top, pictured. Otherwise this box is in really nice condition for an 18th Century Box.

This box commemorates the beginning of mans first flights made famous by the Montgolfier Bros in Paris in 1783.

Measures approximately 2" in diameter and ½" deep.

French, Circa 1790
