Vintage Ideal 1972 Shirley Temple Doll All Original

In 1972, Ideal decided to bring back the Shirley Temple doll. Shirley was getting a lot of attention in politics at the time, and the old adage of "everything old is new again" was in play in a big way in the 1970's. A recession and the war had people longing for the old days, and there was a sudden interest in "nostalgia" though old movie stars, music, etc.

Many of these 1972 Shirleys are found in such pristine condition today because they were snapped up by middle aged women who spotted them in the department stores and remembered their own Shirley Temple doll, or more likely, that their parents were unable to afford one, and this was their chance to buy one now!

I think the 1972 Shirleys are the best likeness of all the Shirley Temple dolls, even the current ones. The eyes are the correct shape and proportion and she is well detailed. I believe she was sculpted by the same sculptor who did the Crissy family of dolls from the same year. Ideal did cut some corners in that the backs of these dolls' hair is never set in sausage curls, but is just wavy.

This Shirley is in fine shape and would make a great addition to any nostalgia collection. Interestingly enough, she is already 40 years old! The same age the original composition dolls from the 1930's were when she was issued!
