Produced by the C. F. Monroe Company , of Meriden Connecticut in the latter part of the 19th Century, Wave Crest items were made in a multitude of shapes and sizes for all different uses ........Some of the most popular items made were beautiful hinged boxes , made for the vanity like this one . ........Made of decoratively molded opaque glass, acid bathed in a solution to give the objects a soft , satin surface. They were then hand painted in pretty floral designs , by any number of skilled artists employed by the company .

Almost always done in pastel shades, this particular box is pale custard in color , with a pretty floral spray of pink with yellow accents on the hinged top , and the front and back of the base......Nicely painted and still in lovely condition. ......And because each Wave Crest object is individually hand painted , no two are identical !..... "Softly " square in shape , and fitted with decorative brass on the top and bottom rims , the inside is lined in pinky peach taffeta , which appears to be original. .....Marked with the company's red trademark logo on the bottom and in wonderful condition .......No paint or enamel loss or others issues to note ! .......Just a note.....I have cleaned off most of the black paint around the bottom edge since the photos were taken ! ......
