Produced by the C. F. Monroe Company , of Meriden Connecticut in the latter part of the 19th Century , Wave Crest items were made in a multitude of shapes and sizes for all different uses. ......Some of the most popular items made were beautiful hinged boxes, made for the vanity like this one. ...... Made of decoratively molded opaque glass , acid bathed in a solution to give the objects a soft , satin surface, they were then hand painted in pretty floral designs, by any number of skilled artists employed by the company . Almost always done in pastel shades, this particular box is nearly white, with a tinge of pale yellow, with a pretty floral spray of white and yellow on the hinged top, heavily enameled and still in lovely condition.....And because each object is individually hand painted , no two are identical ! Oval in shape and fitted with brass on the top and bottom , the inside is lined in yellow silk taffeta ......I am not sure if the fabric lining is original , as it is lose from the inside and can easily be removed....Original or not, I am certain it is old and finishes the box nicely....Marked in the company's red trademark logo on the bottom and in wonderful condition......No paint or enamel loss or other issues to note !
